Canadian Medical Teams Helping Out in Haiti

History

It took less than a minute on January 12th, 2010 for a 7 Mw earthquake to forever change the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Here, one of the poorest countries in the western world was dealt a mortal blow. 200,000 people were killed. Millions more injured, displaced, made homeless and eventually marginalized as the world’s attention faded away.

Team Broken Earth started as an immediate response to the dire need of medical services just after the immense damage and its toll was made known on news channels around the world. Today, the needs of the people of Haiti go beyond the devastation of the earthquake ~ the state of healthcare is woeful and requires massive amounts of investment.

Since 2010, our volunteer medical staff has grown to include teams from across Canada, totalling nearly 200 volunteers on the ground during regular missions to Haiti. We’re proud to represent Canada in the best way we know how – by helping those who need it most.
